Meet Kyle and Riley. December 6th, 2016, I got a call at about 3am from mama letting me know she believed that baby was on his way. We both knew it was very early labor so we both (she tried) rested a little more. 8 am came and she was still contracting pretty consistently so I came in as her Doula. She found her zone and was making her way through each contraction by rocking on all fours. It always amazes me that as women we just instinctively are able to find what works for our bodies best.
It was about 8pm before she decided that it was time for us to head to the hospital. Once we got there things seemed to start picking up a bit. The intensity of each contraction was growing, and with each contraction mom and dad were both reminded that they were that much closer to meeting their new baby boy.
Once transition came, Riley was so exhausted from laboring for more than 24 hours at this point, that her body was giving her tiny breaks in between contractions, long enough for her to fall asleep and rest up a bit for pushing. OUR BODIES ARE SOOOOOO SMART! As she was sitting on the edge of the bed her water broke and that uncontrollable urge to push came right after. She was ready, Dad was ready, and baby was ready!
When it came to deciding how she wanted to push, you could tell she didn’t even think about it. She stood right up, next to the bed, and with each contraction squatted her baby down. She pushed for 3 hours but never once complained, and really, barley made a peep. She was so determined and focused. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought she had done this before.
Then this sweet little bundle they had all been waiting for was born. This chubby cheeked, wide eyed boy. <3 I left this birth (and every birth) so proud to be a woman! Congrats mom and dad, you two worked so hard and did an amazing job, your family is beautiful!
